Tech reflection

LI: To learn how to make a fruit salad and a smoothie

This week we went on the bus on our way to Tech at Tamaki College.  In Tech we went into groups of 3 and 4, we listened to the teacher to know what we were going to do.  Next we had to choose some fruit that was sitting on the table. Then we got some milk and put it into a measuring cup and then into a big bowl then we put some yoghurt and bananas in. We took the bowl of milk back to our bench then got the green chopping board and cut up the fruit.  We put the fruit in layers in a plastic cup, we had layers apples, oranges, watermelon, blueberries and kiwifruit. We put the milk mixture in the blender and made it smooth.  Then we got to eat it.

My favourite part was chopping up the fruit.

kapa haka trip

LI: To learn the teachings of our tupuna  (ancestor) and the history of New Zealand's native people and their land.

We started the day by meeting in the hall, they introduced us and showed us the museum video, next we talked a little bit about the challenge for the day.

The challenge was to search for the answers of 6 questions. Throughout the day, we added more questions about what we were learning about. Those that met the challenge and answered all 10 questions correctly get a small prize. All the answers to these questions were in the talking.

When we first got to the museum we had a morning tea together. Our instructors were Matua Ngarimu and Matua Kingi, Matua Ngarimu talked about the weaponry, it was the main focus of the day. Matua Kingi talked about the inner carvings inside the wharenui. After learning new things, we had a bit of time to explore the Maori section of the museum.

We then had lunch together after a Karakia.  We next learnt 7 taiaha moves and we learnt how to do the haka with the taiaha.

The work around maori weaponry and their practical taiaha session was a mixture of both fitness, cultural understanding, discipline and respect.

Summary of Te Tiriti O Waitangi

The Treaty of Waitangi was used to bring peace to New Zealand.  Our task was to read a article which was about The Treaty of Waitangi. When we were finished reading we had to use this summarizing template to help us create a paragraph telling us some of the story of the treaty. This task was really fun because I got learn new things about the treaty of waitangi.
